Sage Diary vx Barehand.

Making a Battle (hindsight whatever..) Sage. I'm wondering whitch of the following will have the best Dmg output. I'll be using a link and all that crap.

Barehand 99int, 80ish agi, 35 dex.
Sage Diary 50str, 80ish agi, 90int, 35dex.

Those are Base stats.

Of those two, the second build would probably do more dps. Although, the 50 points of STR for 5% more aspd isn't worth it. Putting those points into AGI would give almost 2 more aspd. And without STR, there isn't a need for DEX.

Bazerald is the best, imo. Save up for one and go 99agi/99int.

Will a double cecil damon carded Sage's Diary be better than a Bazerald?

They are very close when the diary is uncarded.

e.g. 120 int and 91+17 agi with sage's diary, awake pot, maxed Study: 490~835 matk, 175.12 aspd
126 int (5 more from bazerald, 1 extra from equips), 91+17 agi with bazerald, awake pot, no need to max Study: 495~826 math, 175.27 aspd

Double rapid sage's diary will outperform bazerald in damage, of course the prerequisite is Study. But with Dragonology being helpful to the build and there generally not being too many other sage skills to get, maxing Study shouldn't be a problem.
Well, with bazerald you'd have a better sp regen

So wait, didn't the Diary give 15% more matk only if you have the 50 str?

And would using the diary give me other advantage (cardwise)?

Should I do 99 agi/int? Whatever the weapon?

sage's diary will give you +15% matk by just equipping it no matter you stats. if you have over 70 int though you get a +5% matk boost. so if you have over 70 int you get a total of +20% matk. this is all according to doddler's calc.

Gives +15% MAtk no matter what.
If you have more than 50 Str, then you gain 5% aspd.
If you have more than 70 Int, you gain a further 5% MAtk.

Don't bother getting Str.

Sage Diary, if you can get 120int while using it, will be better then a Bazerald. With 2xEaring, Mage/2int Headgear you can get 120int at 92int if you get Dragonology(it is 92+28 with mage Hat, Dragonology, 2xEaring and Bless).

Go with your first build but I suggest 97 int, that gives you your final Matk Bonus with a Sage Diary. Then build Agi as high as possible(pay attention to aspd bonus)and 30ish dex is fine. If you plan on getting 2 Cecil cards drop dex, your hit will be nothing so no need for it.

It comes down to 100int or lower a bazerald will be more benefical but once you get 105+int Sage's Diary is a lot better, especially when Cecil Cards will drop in price then you can throw two in there and get close to 180aspd.

Pretty much as far as damage output goes. In pvm it's not a huge issue though, you have plenty of ways to get back to where linker is (if you're using a slave linker), can Blinding mist mobs, fiberlock them, you can precast double bolt on stuff as well and it generally works out to clear up a spot.. should linker be lying dead there.

Monsters with dispel are a pain of course, as is everything with dispel/flying kick in pvp/woe.
I like some decent dex on a scholar though, to be able to at least moderately well use manual bolts (and do other scholar related stuff like supporting).

I'm trying for a professor that can take on tankers in PVP, making good use of cloaking muffler to get the jump on them.

Gotten rid of FD, would SC or SW help more in a 1v1 head-on fight?

Since SW wouldn't do anything against spiral pierce, I'm leaning towards SC now..

My surrent sage build is

CB10 FB10 SW7 (SS5NP7 or whatever the prereqs) , job 41 mage right now with FD1 (for the effect I guess, but was planning to get to 10, for PvP, and for occasional annoying shits or IDK)

Any advice, like where to spend those other 9 points.

I don't want to drop any of the bolt skills :[ they are the livelihood of battleprofs ffs.

Btw, just got an idea on how to deal with spiral pierce : just web the LK, drop SW infront of him and Wall of Fog on top of him, then proceed to rape.

Given that battleprofs are AGI characters, the blind and high chance to miss ranged attacks within wall of fog means taking LKs on should be quite possible. As for paladins, spam swall on yourself and let them kill themselves with MR :P

Sadly with no Str the only good card right now for it is the Sniper Cecil cards :-/
And...of course...a Doppel card, lol.
