Anyone know a good gaming mouse, I need two options, cordless and corded. Also, if you have the one you recommend can you describe how well it is.

What I have is a Logitech cordless mouse which needs recharging everyday and is pretty old but has those two side buttons. I have tried to configure the side buttons so I can use the f keys in game but it doesn't work.

Do the gaming mice nowadays let you do this in RO?
Are there any mice that have more than 2 buttons that let you use them for gaming purposes?

The reason I'm asking this is because I use a laptop and I would just like to use a mouse for leveling if it's possible.

I have the Logitech Mx518 and I love it, it has the 2 extra side buttons, as well as adjustable sensitivity (buttons are on the mouse as well) and a button that opens up an alt-tab menu. It's corded, so no batteries or recharging. The side buttons don't work in RO, i don't think they will on any mouse, but they will work in nearly every other game. Mouse comes with a program that lets you configure everything on it, including the preset sensitivity levels for the 'on-the-fly' switching buttons. If I ever needed to buy a new mouse, would definitely just buy this kind again, had it for maybe 2 years, and never a problem.

Another mouse I hear alot of good things about is the G7, I've never used it, but i'm pretty sure it's very similar to the Mx518, with high sensitivity levels, and weights you can adjust (ie: pure gaming mouse).

i use the MX1000 and G7, both from logitech. I like the MX1000 because it has 10 programmable buttons and a scroll, with /q2 in RO, you can hotkey F1-F9 and F12 on it and still have left and right click.

More recently I got the G7, like Shadow said it's a good mouse, there's no weights you can adjust, but it does have on the fly sensativity switching. One thing I like about it is that the batter charges in 2 hours, and lasts 4 hours, and comes with 2 batteries and a seperate charger. I've been flying a gunship in battlefield 2142, mid-dogfight, and the battery would run dry. Generally I'm able to just pop the battery and replace with the charged one while still staying in the air. Just don't forget to start charging that second battery once you get a breather or in 4 hours you'll be hurting.

I have Mx510 but I cant say much about if its good for gaming or not, I just play ro. But for Shadow, the mouse came with driver cd which had Logitech config program, I hotkeyed the side buttons to F8 and F9 so they can be used for ro.

I don't think RO is compatible with the side buttons at all. I think it is hard-built with keyboard listeners than mouse listeners when looking for button presses. I've tried multiple mice with side buttons set up for using the F keys as the side buttons, but to no avail. My favorite mouse right now is this small black Microsoft mouse I bought for like 15$ at Staples. It's a "Compact Optical Mouse" and is corded. I can't stand cordless mainly because their batteries tend to die off at the WORST possible time ever.

I have the Logitech Mx518 and I love it,

I have one of these two. I've had it for 4 years and millions of clicks. The only thing that shows sign of heavy usage is the discolored and faded Logitech logo. I'd say this is a good entry level gaming mouse (no adjustable weights, etc.).

I may have been thinking of the G5, one is cordless, one is not, and damn, i really thought it had the weights. Eitherway, logitech is probably the best brand outthere for the price.

Yeah, I've been using one of those for awhile now. Absolutely love it. Does great for anything I use it for.

Any razer mouse, any modern logitech mouse (MX510/518, MX310, Gwhatever), any Intellimouse Explorer (1.1SE and 3.0 are especially popular). Steel Series makes 1.1SE and 3.0 clones that are up to date. Pick one that is a shape+weight you like. You won't be dissapointed.

The 510 in red is my personal favorite. I use an MX518 now because my Gwhatever died and I didn't like the shape/weight much. The weight was very awkward due to the weight compartment.

alright cool.

I just found out what I have and it's the MX700 and the batteries aren't working anymore, tried replacing them but too skinny/small? I did test the buttons on it and /q2 did work (can't believe I never knew about this).

what's a good price range for the MX518 and how many buttons can you program it for RO?

Pred, do you mean that you can use 10 buttons for the f keys? How long does battery life last after recharging?

If you're in Canada, I just looked at the Canada Computers website and saw that a MX518 is $38 (brand new).

I'm currently using a MX Revolution (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HCT12O/) (not really a gaming mouse) I was using a G7 before. I like either one. =]

I recharge the mouse once every 2-3 days of fairly consistant use in FPSes, RO, and just general computer usage, and it only takes an hour or two to fully charge.

The way I have it set up is as such.

The three thumb buttons are F1, F2, and F3.
Middle Click is F4.
The button below the scroll wheel is F5.
The button above the scroll wheel is F6.
The scroll wheel itself is F7 and F8 via /q2.
Tilting the scroll left is F9.
Tilting the scroll right is F12.

I put the important armor/shield switching on the F7 F8 F9 keys to easily switch between my gears with a flick of the finger. The only problem was if I was on the wrong hotkey bar, then i had to get TO the right hotkey bar first (oh noes, at most two flicks to the right) but if i needed an INSTANT switch, i sometimes wasn't able to make it as fast as i could in battlemode, but it was still alot faster than reaching over to F12 then going back to the F# key i would need.

I used that setup until i got the G7, at which point i got around to teaching myself battlemode since it didn't have as many programmable buttons. But I still kept the tilt left and right buttons the same, and made all my important armor/shield switching on the m , and . buttons in battlemode, for easy instant switching with a flick of the finger.

As for general gaming, I prefer using the G7 over the MX1000 due mostly to the fact that you have a virtually infinite battery life (takes less than 2 seconds to swap out the old and in the new). Along with I like the feel of the mouse with the wider pads on the bottom making it slide easily with no mousepad.
