O.K., this should be simple, I've got a long ass video I want to cut a 2min clip out of. What is the easiest, most basic kind of program for this? A Google search turns up 5000 programs all stating they do the same thing. Rather than downloading shit and trying it over and over, I thought I'd ask some opinions of people that have done this before.
wut u suggest for dis?

Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere. Both are complete video editing software but rather easy to use. I don't know if there are simpler programs that focus only on cutting and pasting particular frames in the video.

If you just want to just cut something down, I suggest virtualdub. I find Windows Movie Maker to be a bit buggy, and you can't cut down frame by frame if you want to, like in virtualdub. Plus, you can do a few other things in virtualdub, like cropping/resizing videos.

It's free, and I haven't had any problems with it.
virtualdubmod + Avisynth == advanced scripting :)

Sony Vegas is really nice. I would say it is the next best thing to Final Cut Pro.
