25 is really too low to judge its stats; wait until it's 40, or better yet, 50.

A 25 Vani should still get decent exp from Metalings. Culverts should be all right as well. If you are on a heavily botted server, Poison Spores might not be a bad idea. :)

Sometimes vani's start out pretty weak and turn out very well. The odds of getting a truly sucktacular homun is pretty low, but it is there...But sometimes you might even think about evolving your vani when it hits loyal to see if that boosts his stat-gaining any.

Like Lynz said, just wait and make sure you keep track of every level so you can see the growth.
