View Full Version : Sages are so unrespected...

So, every day I go out hunting for my agi/int hindsight sage. He's still in the early 70s now (just started out about a month ago), and leveling at mi gaos (=enchanted soil).
What disappoints me is the lack of respect I (and my fellow sages - have a small group of battle sages I often hang out with) get from other players. We do fine with casting and pounding, but people don't like us. Basically nobody will want to group, because we often take a while to kill a mi gao (we need to cast a level 10 firebolt twice).
The only people who can understand us are soul linkers who we sometimes group with. And to even do that, we need to impress them by showing what a linked sage can do... We're also occassionally called upon when someone's putting portals on spawn points (to spell break them).
I'm wondering, is it always like this? Other servers too? I'd imagine it being a nightmare in later levels if nobody wants to party...

Partying doesn't always mean better exp.

afaik I know, int/agi sages all solo. no?
soloing(or being slaved) > partying on a sage in terms of good exp ..unless you're in bios or something. :P

I do solo most of the time right now, I'm just finding it difficult to tread along the social part of the game... I'm not always looking for exp, sometimes I'm just looking for friends. :)
Also, it's the disrespect that I don't like. I'm ok with leveling alone, but people often go "What the heck, a sage?!" and kill steal, sometimes thinking I'm running from a monster when I really am just cast-walking, or just plain kill stealing off me. Some will go as far to say that sages are a failed class.. Just now a priest accused me of being a really weak char, due to running around with a mob of mantis. Thankfully a nice SL gave me a link and I successfully omg'ed him.
I guess the job is just misunderstood. :(
I do so much better in ID3 soloing with my linker slave than ever partying.

The only disrespect I've encountered is everyone immediately assuming I'm nothing more than an endow sage.

Here's your problem: you level at mi gaos and people there are different from other places.
Try going to ID1 or High Orcs.

Yeah I think a better name for the thread would be "Kids in Louyang are so disrespectful." They're the problem, not you and not sages, although I understand where you're coming from.
Funny how a Sage gets treated like dirt all their life, and then immediately after turning Scholar people want them. Seems to be true for all classes though, just more so with Sages. I guess that can be a form of motivation though!

I disrespect you! /nose
Actually I found people in Louyang alot nicer than ppl claim them to be.
Alot of free buffs, good parties, some nice friends, good mobbing.
Then again that was before Linkers and all the AGI/INT Scrubs. /meh
The best people to party with are battle priests and battle linkers. The three of you are an unbeatable combo. The rest just view you as a free endow slave...
FS Priests can be good too, but most of them are lazy. They'll bless/agi/heal. Thats it.
The good ones will suff you before each cast, lex extra mobs, and keep impositio on.
Then again you can just kick ass solo (with a buffslave).

Just like Dancers and battle Alchemists xD!
Hordes of stun-immune Dancers/Gypsies = WoE is a stun fest = Craved in WoE but hardly partied with.

I think I read that in idRO that sages were disrespected. Guess you gotta prove them otherwise!! Marry yourself a linker and you can practically level anywhere. I solo goats with Kaahi and link at level 75. Each goat gives more than gaos anyways. And no annoying mantises. Just tele from the occasional harpies. ^_^

Just FYI, if you're in your low 70s and you're AGI isn't enough to flee gaos (And I hope you maxed your Int first), its generally faster to kill the gaos with vertical firewall + Firebolt. Using 2 Firebolt 10 while freecasting is generally overkill and a lost of time.
Also, I hope you got some Dex. Like 30-40.

Int/Agi sage's don't need ANY amount of dex I did just fine lightning bolting siromas to 70 then stings to 75 then ID3 till now with no dex

I realized that one lvl 10 firebolt gets me 6k of damage, so I can just cast a level 4 or punch it to kill it too, haha. Firewall is too much of an SP-drainer to me.
I'm pretty sure there are less than 20 agi/int battle sages here. (Sometimes an int/dex will claim to be "battle" too.) Many people don't even know what autocast is, and why the heck I can punch and have a plethora of bolts rain down in front of me. Many linkers are totally blind as to what the Sage link does in the first place...
Thank Gravity for making the Sage link a prereq for Esma, otherwise I don't think many SLs would get it. :P
Oh, umm... The F2P server here has no teleport/fly/butterflywing function. Plus equips can break on +1, and non-premium equips drop on death. Then -5% EXP penalty on death too. So people here generally try really hard not to die, and is also why I'm careful not to go anywhere I can't handle.
ID1 is good, but Gazetis murder me if I don't have a priest. HOs have massive mobs, and people there mob train me and my SL buddies a lot. Kinda sucks not being able to handle mobs well (makes me miss SG too, haha).
How do you guys handle endow beggars? I keep telling people I don't have endows (and those elemental stones cost 5k here), but they keep saying that "it's impossible for a sage not to have endows - that's what they're built for!"

Ditto. Hence why we're called either int/agi Sages or hindsight Sages.
I leveled at Prison from level 48 to 62 just killing the Zombie Prisoners (stopped in at 78; got int first then went for agi). I tried leveling on Mi Gaos using Hindsight and Soul Link (level 3 =\), it was fun and very fast. However, I didn't like the fact that I didn't have Kaahi yet on my Soul Linker and I need the Soul Linker link on my Soul Linker to give my Sage Kaahi. I need to find a Soul Linker that is willing to party with me that was Kaahi and Sage Soul Link xD!

You know by dropping a couple points from AGI you'll could get that 30-40 dex without losing in ASPD or Flee (Since you already hit the max flee for the map)
Its all about planning up. You say you don't need DEX. I say its useful to cast Hindsight. To cast bolts. To cast land enchants. And Endows.

If it fits your skill build, I'm sure dex would be helpful. It's not for those who don't go for land enchants/endows. At least, those who don't plan to try and manual cast spells while trying to use hindsight as well (leveling in Ice Dungeon 3).
Nack~

Agi/int sages dont need dex cause hindsight activates on a miss *shrug* dex for a skill you cast every 3 or so minutes seems wasteful and even without any dex you'll still be able to cast a bolt on a monster by the time you kill another most of the time. Then you can just turn round and bring the rain on the monster you just bolted on!
you're talking about battle sages! not hindsight sages:( different!

I'll try them next, thanks... But as I said earlier, Gazetis are my problem in ID1 and mobs are my problem in HOs.
I didn't take any endows (except one for HD). Is that bad? I've got leftover points and am planning to max out my thunderstorm to level 10.
Also... I've got crap equip, do to equips breaking on +1 and can drop (except premiums). The best premium book is a bible... And as for a hat, I have no idea what to wear. I'm probably much weaker than all of the other agi/int sages here...
One side effect of playing sage: I can't play my wiz anymore, I keep forgetting I can't cast and walk or cast cancel. :(

You can't break anything going to +1 nor can they drop...unless you are playing on some weird server.

I pretty sure the server he's playing is legit. It's a free server that sucks ass and encourages to play on the p2p server.

Oh then I guess you are screwed then. Can't give advice to a server that has those restrictions...I wouldn't play a Sage on that server lol.
The day I lose sleep about the opinions from noobyang trash is the day i disrespect MYSELF! Ok some of my best in game friends i met there but lets face it that place is the RO ghetto so why bother with their comments.
In any case, at level 70 with a linker slave spouse i went straight to id3 and got several levels in no time.
While ppl may understandably not want to party a sage, disrespecting a sage is like a young boy hating girls, only to have it bite his ass as he gets a bit older and realises just HOW wrong he was when said sage becomes scholar and he needs sp!

It's the idRO fun and chat server. Premium items thankfully don't drop, so all of my equip are premiums. For me, it's a challenge to make a battle sage here. I successfully assisted in nearly killing of a bunch of thanatos monsters wandering near payon, with some priests and an SL.
Yep, I'm heading straight for ID3 when my SL is ready!

I have very similar circumstances here in pRO, Steax. I also play in a free-to-play server, and I ocassionally sink some pesos into the premium items - I think of them as time savers where playing time for myself is the most valuable thing I can get. I am also one of the few battle sages playing on my server, - I encountered the same criticism as you in my early sage days (around level 68) when I was vert FW-ing mi gaos and casting FB on them (average of one 8-bolt and one 5-bolt - just enough for a single vert FW to run out).
Most wondered why I still played like a mage when I was already a second jobber, and naturally nobody wanted to party with me. I turned that all around however, when i got to level 80 - with enough flee, some buffs and a (cheap) +10 agi food, I took on the mi-gaos mano-e-mano, making 400+ melee dmg at 174 aspd, autocasting from time to time, and having an 8-bolt pre-cast going on in the background at the same time.
Those same assassins, knights, and archers who ridiculed me now either went around me in silence, or gave an /omg at least once - most of them twice. after that I got offers to party with priests who wanted to take me to ID and to GH, of all places.
Long and short of it, lvl 70++ is not so high yet, but once you hit a certain level, with a properly built battlesage, you're a pretty good party member, even without a link slave. For harder dungeons, a counter dagger is highly recommended - even +4 upgrade on my 70 STR sage gives around 500++ dmg on titans (with endow of course).
PS - I'd advise against level 10 TS, it takes a looong time to cast especially for a low or no-dex battlesage, and imo isn't very useful outside of izlude and seals (not ID cuz most monsters there have a ton of HP - concentrate on one at a time).
Sorry if this turned into a short story - I can relate very well to being a lonely battlesage in a server full of people who don't know what to make of you haha.

I'm shoving it up to almost 80 now, and I can feel people's attitude changing already. I absolutely love outkilling other chars, especially when people can't even kill steal from me anymore because things die too quickly to me, lol. I have fun showing off to people who claim that finger offensive or heat is good... Although occasionally people accuse me of being a mad bot. And then I can walk straight up in front of them and they'll go omg. Lol =P
It's nice to know there are others like me, and that there'll be enlightenment in the future... :)
