Title: Ragial Discussion v2
Post by: Dishonru on March 17, 2011, 11:15:57 PM
What is Ragial?
Ragial (http://ragial.com) is an iRO market site that contains live vending information and market history.

What is this thread for?

Ragial now supports all iRO servers and non-iRO servers
If you would like your official server included on the ragial site send me a pm or post here.  I might even be able to have the item database/site layout be in the server's native language.

FAQ
--

[Q] How does the site get its information?
[A] A bot goes through town and submits information to the site.  The site then parses the information and takes appropriate action.

[Q] Has the bot ever been banned?
[A] The bot only walks through prontera for a brief period of time.  It never kills any monsters, loots items, or interacts with the player base in any noticeable way.

[Q] How come my vend isn't listed?
[A] The bot does not browse all of Prontera.  It only browses around the fountain, down the main path, and by the park benches.  Occasionally the site misses a vend or two.  There is also a delay of up to twenty minutes between when you put up a vend and when the site sees it.

[Q] How come the new site took so long?
[A] Ragial is quite a bit more complicated than most people realize.  Ragial currently has ~12 tables per server, ~6 tables for other things, and over 1.4gb of data tracking ~3 years of valkyrie's market and Ymir since its creation.  The size of the new site's back-end code is 108kb when compressed, and that doesn't count the plugins for the bot or other scripts I have written by hand.

Rewriting everything from scratch was a daunting task.  There are scripts to extract information from the client, scripts to convert images from the client to proper format, and scripts to handle a lot of the database maintenance.  The update script on the server alone is ~600 lines of code.  On top of all this, the SQL queries required to perform all of this efficiently take considerable planning as well as testing.  A single poorly indexed (or non-indexed) query on the item tables for a given server, with over 1.4million entries in some of the tables used, will murder the site's performance.

I did go months at a time without working on it, but even if I treated the site as a full time job it would have taken over a month of development effort. I'm also lazy

1) Please, YES!

2) I don't understand this. Which colors? On the price?

I would say "yes!" to the first, and "no" to the second.
The % always were a nice help, exspecially if you're unsure about the price.
The second one, I guess, is that you regist buying-shop's now?
I would definatly indicate them with another color, maybe even an extra section, so that you don't mix them up...

Look at the site for the buy thing. They are very separate.

What I mean by #2 is currently on vends green=cheap, red=expensive

On buys red="buying low" and green="buying high" (the opposite)

The basic idea behind the current scheme is green=good, red=bad.

I'll probably add it in tomorrow.  Other people I have asked have been neutral or want it back.

It's still in the database. It just isn't showing. :)

It seems you can no longer look up numbers. I was able to look up +7 items and such.

I just changed it so you can search for only +x or [1]or whatever now.

Before this change you had to do +7 and a 3 letter or more word.

I'm glad the vendors have been removed from the 'recently viewed' list, I always ended up with a "last 10" vendors list rather than items heh.

It would be neat if there was a X box or something you could click to remove an item from recently viewed but yeah really liking the new layout

1) % would be good to have back.

2) I think if they are buying for less than average sale price then Red and if buying at average sale price or above then Green. Though so far I only ever see people using Buy shops to buy way under the average sale price so I guess they'll always be Red... When %s are back at least we can more easily see how far under average sale price they are. Could do orange for only slightly under if red vs green is too stark.

It's possible to list all the items in vend? Before the update, Ragial listed all the items when I search " " (space) in the search bar and I would like it to be back.
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2

There's a shops (http://ragial.com/shops/iRO-Valkyrie) page if anyone cares. I personally think it is useless, even if I made it paged.

There's also a buying history if you swap "/item/" in an item history url with "/btem", example (http://ragial.com/btem/iRO-Valkyrie/HbXm5a42iFa1).  I couldn't come up with anything useful to use buy history for besides showing it on the item average page for appropriate items.

You can browse through cheap or buying to see all the items on vend and buy respectively.

I'll add a page that lists vended items in a better browsing order.

Edit: vending is up now.  You can see it linked just above the main area "Buying - Cheap - Vending"

Some questions about people's opinion on the new site:

(1) Should I bring the % from average back for live items? They will use 7 day average this time so they won't be massively off.

(2) Should buy items be colored red=buying low, green=buying high so it keeps a green=good, red=bad theme?

Yes, definitely, on both.

e: I came here to post this so I'm happy you were already on top of it!

Percent from average is back in.
Item price coloring is out because it's annoying/redundant/ugly to have both going at the same time.

If you see a page with messed up table header or footer post it here.  I'm pretty sure everything is fine.

Edit: I didn't realize baby 3rd classes were an actual thing.  Added player image support for them.

The search functionality seems to not be as useful (to me) as it used to be.  For example, on the v1 page, I used to be able to enter "valk sh" (without the quotes) and get a listing of just valk shields & shoes on the market.  The v2 site lists all valk items (shields, armor, mants, & shoes).

Further testing shows that entering more characters from "shield" causes the search to work as expected, so I guess I can't be as lazy as before.

-Selected server now saves. (for real)
-Fixed a display bug with headgear order (middle was overwriting top)
-Fixed  display bug with page title on item history search
-Fixed ROPD integration
-Fixed item naming for weapon cards that are a suffix
-Added a favorite icon
-Search should now work mostly like it did before (no more 1 character search strings, no more _ or %, otherwise the same)
-Fixed and changed a bunch of other stuff

Random note: If you make a buy shop on a non-merchant class it will properly show your character. Including mount classes and mechanics.
Stuff to do:

~Layout
-Redesign logo
-Tweak search size, appearance, and location

~Low priority
-Determine if a potion or weapon is ranked while indexing it
-Store the name on alchemy/blacksmith goods while they are live vending (probably not in history information.)

~Probably never going to happen
-Create or obtain a better item database
-Use that database to improve many aspects of the site
Currently I don't track item type. If/when I get an item database it would be a nice change. If I remember correctly, the client table file only designates equipment which is why I dropped it in the first place.

Tyler! I like the new Ragial, I think it is awesome. Wasn't there a, "things that are going for a ridiculous price" section in addition to the cheap items part in the old version?

I liked to look at things that were going for a higher price, of course, unless it was like "Jellopy 1000%".

Is this something you have already implemented into the new site and I just can't see it... or was this taken out?

It was taken out but you can probably just go to the last page of cheap.

Usually around 60 for ymir 80 for valk.

Fixed up the script that updates the item database from client files/checks for missing item images.

This might show up out of nowhere one day kind of soon.  It will appear as magical circles or symbols of some kind either to the left or right of the recently viewed item.

Edit: IF you click the fRO link and can't get back to iRO use this: http://ragial.com/iRO-Valkyrie or http://ragial.com/iRO-Ymir

there seems to be a small problem with the encoding though, the site is set to utf-8 while charnames that are displayed are clearly not
e.g. http://ragial.com/shop/fRO-Chaos/443582
Displays: .Amlie.
while it should be .Amélie.

I suppose it's too late to send you some of the files (http://gandi.wushuang.ws/~stuff/fRO.rar) you need from the client?

Would it ever be possible to add something like a "new vends" page? That tracks what vends have recently opened and separates them from ones that have been up for awhile? Often times when I'm clicking through "cheap" the list will change suddenly and I know a new vend or two has popped up, but I'm too lazy to go back through the entire thing to see what's different.

Might be a bit too much hassle but just throwin' it out there.

Question: Should recently viewed favor items currently vending or should it work like it does now?

Changes:

-Fixed a parsing bug that caused certain shop names in buy shops to completely mess up parsing.  If anyone saw Ymir earlier that won't happen again.
-Removed all bad entries due to this bug in item cache.
-Fixed pathing to include buy shop area/bottom left benches.
-Fixed fRO to not walk in to ch_house.
-Added vending/offline indicators to recently viewed.
-Made online indicator less radioactive.  I'll try to get someone to come up with better online/offline images.
-Added item tagging.
-Fixed chrome rendering issue when page is refreshed.  (randomly didn't like float: right for a form when on the same line as a separate , but only on reload???)
!!TODO
-Improve "Tag" system (show more information, integrate with more than just the item information page, get cute little tag images)
-Import fRO items + item images
-Improve information shown on specific pages with mouse overs and clicks

~Layout
-Redesign logo
-Tweak search size, appearance, and location
-Spruce up table appearance.  It could be better.
-Clean up CSS, move from XHTML to HTML5 (HTML5  which is more like XHTML 3.0 than HTML4)
-- The above will greatly improve page loading time because some of my css selectors are OUT OF CONTROL

~Low priority
-Determine if a potion or weapon is ranked while indexing it
-Store the name on alchemy/blacksmith goods while they are live vending (probably not in history information.)
-Possibly convert history search to fulltext, will improve query time significantly

Updates are probably going to be really delayed until monday night.  Someone broke my cable modem.

I'm debating getting a VPS soon which will allow me to run the updaters from the VPS.  That means I can update much faster and there will be no down time in coverage.  Downside? It costs money.

Which browser?  I tested IE9/Chrome/Firefox/Safari/Opera.  Latest updates on those last four.

If the image is on its own line try hitting F5.  The style sheets were updated for this change.  Javascript was, too.  If you hit "+tag" and it doesn't pop up an alert then you need to refresh.

Updates are back to happening regularly.

I also have a pretty big revamp coming for the layout (again.)  The current layout was jut a "get the old site's functionality back" rush.  The next layout will change the functionality quite a bit to be a bit more friendly to tagging/recently viewed/searches/getting where you want in less clicks.  I'll post a link to the test version of the site in this thread once I have some work done on it.  Probably not for a week or so.

There's also a decent chance I am going to get a VPS to have updates a lot more often.

Edit:

-Optimized a ton of things so page loads should be a lot faster
-Created version system for resources I might update so the next time I change javascript/css it will be smooth
-If you see a player who has a black box over their face post it here.

Firefox or Chrome is an even better idea ;D But yeah IE8 was Microsoft finally bringing its browser up to date with some better standards (W3C), not perfect but miles better than it was. Stuff Firefox had always been doing, and Chrome is probably doing. Following standards mean sites are more likely to appear the same across different browsers (IE typically introduced display bugs by not following standards). It also means more security loopholes by accepting faulty non-standard code. I remember that funny scripted page that would open your CD tray on your PC if viewed in IE but not in Firefox. It was just a trick but shows how much IE was flawed back then. Its improved since however. Some web designers have discontinued supporting older IE versions, too much trouble, particularly IE6 which is well-known to of been the worst.

Quote
This version of Internet Explorer is widely derided for its security  issues and lack of support for modern web standards, making frequent  appearances in "worst tech products of all time" lists, with some  publications labeling it as the "least secure software on the planet." Over nine years after its release, it continues to receive patches for  security vulnerabilities nearly every month.

-The donate page (http://ragial.com/donate) was donated a new image.
-Ragial now updates more often than before.
-Fixed some junk and began working on a new version of the library behind the site.

Pretty big update today, but I doubt it's something most people will notice:

-Map is now entirely drawn with css, still clickable to see the whole thing
-Coordinates can now be copied and pasted as a result
-Load time is instant now for both as a result
-Player is now drawn entirely with css
-Animated headgears are animated as a result
-Player load time will be instant and overall bandwidth usage will go down for regular visitors
-Mirrors (img1, img2, ragial) from the April 5th update are now dependent on file name so double/triple caching doesn't happen
-Page execution time at the bottom is now more accurate

If you see any messed up characters/headgears/maps link to them here.

Might remove Yggdrasil from the normal update rotation and have it update every 30 minutes instead.  I will decrease the delay as/if the server population grows.

Some time in the not so distant future I will greatly improve the tag system and how most pages work.  The focus on shop pages will be greatly reduced, although they will remain in for the people who like them.

Title: Suggestion for Tags Page
Post by: Tier on April 25, 2011, 11:44:27 PM
Hi Dishonru, I've just noticed today the ability to tag an item on Ragial and it is awesome! Thanks so much.
Before today, upon startup my chrome browser always opened my email and 4-5 ragial pages on specific items I was watching. But with this feature, I can have only 2 pages being opened at once upon startup: my email and the tags page. :)

So here is my suggestion: Could you list on that page (http://ragial.com/tagged/iRO-Valkyrie) also the cheapest price being sold? It would be really nice, to be able to see all the items I have an eye on in a single page and the cheapest prices also.

Example of the webpage:
Code: [Select]

Tagged                                                         page 1
Hunter Fly Card                          5,000,000z   █ Apr-26-11   x

Diabolus Boots [1]                      25,000,000z   █ Apr-26-11   x

Thanks

How are the URLs for the item history created? Is there a specific algorithm used or is it a random hash based on the time it was added to the DB?

For example:
Trunk - http://www.ragial.com/item/iRO-Valkyrie/HbXm5a42iFZk

Could it not just be the item id?
Example:
Trunk - http://www.ragial.com/item/iRO-Valkyrie/1019

Furthermore, is there any way to get raw data? Or at least just the 7 day averages?
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2

It's created in a specific way unique to each item type (with upgrades/cards factored in.)

Is it a secret or can you share the code for it?

Edit: Or it it something mercdb does? (If you use mercdb for the data)

Why do you want to view a player's buy history?

Edit: I am just looking for a reason.  The reason I don't have buy history on the shop page is because it's not relevant in my opinion.  If you are looking to sell a specific item you can see who was buying it on that item's page.  Buying items aren't taken in to consideration for averages because you can set buying really high or low for free.  Buying can't be used to track if a player is botting  or hacked someone.   Seeing what someone was buying doesn't really tell you anything useful as far as I could tell, so I opted not to have a buy history.   It is tracked and could be easily added in ~10 minutes.

Any chance you can add a link to the iW DB entry, for each item?

It'd be really nice to have that close at hand. I find myself opening up a new db.irowiki.org tab for the item i'm looking at on ragial several times a day.

I agree w/ Dr. Azzy, it would be easier to be able to see the description of the items. Either with a link of the DB or as a box/popup as it happens with ROPD, it would be great.

By the way Dishonru, have you thought about the suggestion I gave in the end of page 3?

When I work on the site again improving the tag system is a high priority thing, because the current tag system was coded in a few hours.  It will show lowest price currently for sale as well as the number for sale, and you will be abel to view all the vending ones easily from the tagged page.

Adding tagged items shouldn't show an alert either, it will just pop them on to the list without a refresh.

There will be some kind of login so you don't  lose your tagged items.

etcetc

On descriptions, I've really wanted an item database for a while but I am not a big fan of any of the current item databases going around.  I'd want to just put it in my own words and have some really accurate/brief descriptions that can easily be combined for carded items.  On an older incarnation of the site it used in-game descriptions, but those really suck.  Perhaps something is better than nothing. ;)

The reason I was asking about the way ragial parses its urls for items is because I am currently working on a new item/mob/npc/map/quest/crafting/skill db. Very much like how Wowhead is for WoW. It will have comment areas for everything and the ability to upload screenshots.

Furthermore, when you pull up anything listed above, it will link anything useful about it. Pulling up an item will list the headgears that use it, quests that use it, recipes (cooking/crafting) and skills that use it. Pulling up an NPC will list what quests they give. Etc

Lastly, the reason I wanted to know how ragial does its item urls is so that I might also list the current average vending price for each item without running a mercdb myself.

Vend History doesn't show buy shop items.

I looked through the buy history and your merchant is definitely logged, and those are the coordinates it has it at.  The other issue might be that some times while walking through town it misses the occasional vender.  This might happen consistently in certain congested areas that it only passes once.  I will look in to modifying the route a bit around that part.

Heimdallr mentioned on the RO Q & A session June 2011 RO Q & A ([ame=http://www.justin.tv/warpportal/b/287232361]Justin.tv - warpportal - RO Q & A session June 2011[/ame]) that there will be an in-game vendor search system. He even likened it to ragial. If there was universal in-game search for the vendors for all maps on iRO, it would be awesome.

Personally I think that depending on the way they implement the vendor search system, this would even help improve ragial. Example: supposing that Dishonru can write a script to use the in-game search, then there will not be a need for the bot(s) to walk around prontera anymore. Also, the tag system would gain a lot of value because probably there will be no "tag" function in-game.

The Ingame Search a Vendor function only works on the map you are currently standing on.
To use this system you have to puchase an Item from an NPC and you can also only search for 1 item per Licence.
The system we have right now (Ragial) is a lot better ;)

I've been working a bit on the site here and there.  It's hard for me to really fix the tagged page because the way I want it to work doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the current site.  At any rate, it's likely that there will be some login options and you will at least be able to see the cheapest item available for whatever you have tagged that is currently selling.  Holy shit that came out way more complex than I intended.  Just imagine the cheapest vending price instead of the date for currently selling items. No real ETA, but I've been carving away at it.

I've also been working on a slight rework of the site, so whatever I feel like working on will determine a time frame.  I could have login and cheapest showing tomorrow, but that's not really where my interest is at the moment.

I'm curious if there is a way to search for all items of a certain type.  Like anytime I type weapon, it just returns results for "atlas weapon".  Also, being able to search for weapons by level would be nice. Such as search for all lvl 4 weapons on vend.  Is this currently possible?
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2
Post by: Dishonru on June 15, 2011, 08:29:40 PM
I'll be working on the site again soon, and the highest priority is making the tagged system work nicely, which involves redoing it to work smoothly, making the tagged page give a lot more relevant information, and finally adding accounts so that recently viewed/tagged information is no longer "lost" and you can view it anywhere.

Accounts will most likely be integrated with google and/or twitter.  There's a slight chance I'll use the same library ROPD does so you will have a lot of options.  Ragial will not interact with those at all, it will just make it so I don't have to deal with account registration/maintenance.

I have some other ideas floating around, but we'll see how things go.  As it is Ragial hasn't received a donation since shortly after the new site went live, and I personally haven't played Ragnarok since 2006.  I am tempted to devote time toward other projects closer to my interests.  I'm still interested in Ragial because it is a project that has a never-ending to-do list. There's always improvements that could be made, and there's always ways to expand the site.

It's not currently possible but the site is coded in a way where I could easily do something like this if I were to make/get an item database.

Also, preview of the new tagged system and minor site redesign (some things here will change for the better):

YO TIER I DIDN't SEE YOUR POST

I have no internet till some time next week.  I am working on the site without internet.  Some things I can't really test or get to without internet, but it's giving me a good chance to work on quite a few things I wouldn't bother with otherwise.

If all goes well I want to launch near the end of next week, but realistically it might take a week after that.  The new-new version of the site will:

-Integrate the tagged system in to the site much better
-Change how most pages work quite a bit to fit in better with the new tagged page
-Overall be a lot quicker to find things you want, keep track of things you want to, and more
-Add accounts (finally) so your tags/recently viewed are saved forever and ever
-Some minor layout changes that incorporate some of the better parts of the old layout and remove the worst parts of the new one
-A pretty big innovation to how things work (kind of hinted at above) that I have wanted to do but could never figure out how to design for ages.
-Some stuff that people don't really care about, db optimizations [fulltext on search finally], cleaner css, etc

Accounts are guaranteed this update because making the tagged system not suck would be pointless when one of the big parts that sucks is that you lose your tags pretty easily.  It will likely be similar to ROPD's account system.  Whether it will be exactly the same or not is up in the air still, but you will login using a popular site(s).

"Cheap" is Beast Deals on ragial.  It sorts in the same order.  Cheap is being slightly redone on the newer site to group by item type and only show the cheapest price at first.

I had colored pricing before and favor colored percentage off from average instead.  It just looks cleaner and serves the same purpose.

Great news! thx man for what you are doing.
:D

I'm not sure if its been mentioned already (just got home from work, braindead zombie atm) but is it possible to put a link from "individual vendor" view to ROPD? kinda like how when you ropd someone you can click a link to their vend on ragial.

So if a vendor isnt online, you can harrass (I mean pm) their other chars more easily :P could just be a link at the end of the "this player does not currently have a shop open" text

I may be wrong but it feels as though the item history seems a bit off. How often are you purging the database of the old values. For some Items i had seen that There is  little or no variation between 7 and 28 day average. In hardly a day or two i had seen the both 7 day and 28 day average change  drastically for some items.

A specific case where one person influenced the average by ~90% has been brought to my attention, but preventing it is rather difficult.  I'll try and look at the exact numbers to see if there is anything I can do besides running the average calculation an additional time, which will rule those kinds of numbers out.

edit: fixed it, if you find any items where a higher price changes the average post them here or pm them to me

final fix: run average formula until std dev stays consistent or is not to the same power as avg
It's basically a centralized area for people to congregate and pick up REQs and stuff.

The second floor isn't usually populated with shops unless there's a lucky box item exchange event, so whether or not you go that far in is up to you.

How much work do you think it would take to include links to iW Database for item descriptions?  Sometimes I see items that look interesting, and have to do a lot of cross referencing to see what cards do and such.

I would like to say that I absolutely love what you've done with Ragial.  It's an addiction, like eBay but with fake money (plenty of real time, though).  Thanks for all your work on this.

I could add links to the IW database.  It's not much work because the item ids (the actual ones) are easy for me to reference.

I have a new version kind of working.  Just need to make some minor database changes and redesign a few things, and I would like to add user accounts because the new version has a much tighter tagged item system.

I've debated doing an item db for a while, but it's a lot of manual work to create short and concise item descriptions that I would like.  I used to just dump the client's item information, but the formatting is often inconsistent and it's too wordy or poorly worded far too often.

just on the "keris" daggers, they can have enchants in both 3rd and 4th slots but ragials only picking up 1 slot (i forget which). Not a big thing (since literally 99.9% of enchant combos are useless), but will become more relevant when Mora update arrives :)

(For ROPD, Links here)

Would it be possible to get a few moderators to look at the shoutbox once in a while, seems some people only wish to post links to other sites to troll other users or just talk garbage in it... I hate dealing with these "trolls" in pvp, I rather not have to deal with them elsewhere.  It would be greatly appreciated. :)

*Edit*
I did find the Ignore users, and put it to good use. I would rather get rid of the trolls instead of simply ignoring them.

Good work on ropd and ragial, I use ragial more frequent than ropd, but both are very useful! Thank you for taking the time in developing these great tools! Ill donate cause I know hosting can be quite pricey.

under "recent viewed" items, if a vendor has multiples of the same item at different prices does it have a set rule about only showing the highest/lowest price?

I've noticed sometimes it displays the cheapest, other times the most expensive. not sure what it depends on for which, would be handy to know or if its just semi random.

It used to only track lowest price and highest amount for a three (or seven) day period from when the item was first seen from a specific person.

It now just uses last vended price/amount for a set seven day period.  I wanted to have more data for averages, and I wanted to be able to calculate longer term statistics for a set period.

I think abuse wise the level has remained similar.  If you see anything bad cropping up feel free to point it out, because there was a reason I used to keep the lowest price.  I prefer to skew averages toward a lower price whenever possible.

It would be great if you could add the pRO servers here. New Chaos is P2P still, so I guess it's okay to not include it for now.

New Loki and Valkyrie are the higher population ones so you could start with those. Valhalla is probably the smallest. You can move up to Google ads once traffic is higher. :)

I was just noticing today a lot of the items that came out this year don't show up in ragial (such as alicel hat, long tongue, etc). Any plans to either add those items, or let Ragial pick them up the way ragnastats does (as an unknown item)?

Any plans to have it check eden, where 2/3 of Yggdrasil's shops actually are?

Item database and images updated. Includes proper card prefixes/suffixes (no idea when they added new cards.)

Support for eden is added.  Need to update the bot path still, but once that is updated eden will show up and all that junk.

If you find minimap bugs please post the map and coordinates.   Make sure you manually refresh the page once before reporting it, because I did a stealth javascript update.

Eden's map is subject to change.  If someone would like to create a better looking one I can provide the source images Renouille created for me to hack together that version.  The main changes would be 5-8 pixels between 1F and 2F, a better top 20px, and probably some spacing on the bottom for the coordinates.  Overall the way it looks now is mostly fine, but if people vend in certain locations it looks a little awkward.

Current (note: top looks less awkward with black transparency over it):
(http://ragial.com/res/maps/eden_proto.png)  (http://ragial.com/res/maps/prontera_vend_clean.png)

If I don't end up doing research I might work on the new version of the site. Depends on who bugs me to work on it.

Done, for iPhone. This took a lot more work than I anticipated, but it's just been released on the app store. Basically, search for what you want and add it to your watch list and select one of three notification settings:

Search ROPrice on the appstore. It's a useful addition to Ragial, but not in any way intended to replace it!

It has been on the TODO list for about three years now.

If you really care it's based on a combination of IP and browser version.  This was fine three years ago because browsers didn't update often.  These days, if you fake your client string or use something that rarely updates (maybe IE?) it shouldn't reset.  Inconvenient at best and terrible at worst.

I was going to add accounts and some other stuff over break, but as of tuesday my break ends a few weeks early.

Update Today on the live site
-% near an item should now more accurately represent whether an item is cheap or not
-Did a bunch of behind the scenes stuff

If you notice anything really ridiculous going on with averages or items link it.  The % near an item should be a lot "lower" than before in most cases, especially in cases where the item has a large standard deviation relative to its average.

It may currently be too aggressive.  If you think the % is less useful now while just browsing items post here, because it can be made more lenient rather easily.  A lot of items will just be 0% now even if they are below average by a bit.

Development effort is currently going in to a new version of the site.  I am hoping it will go live before my winter break ends.  I have a layout mostly designed, but there's a lot of little details to go over because I changed how quite a few things work and redid the html/css part of the site.

I also really want to do user accounts and some things like that (email notifications at the very least), but that is a time consuming part that I might not get to.

As far as android goes, as soon as sprint gets the Galaxy Nexus I will have an android phone.  I do want to develop an android app, but I have no idea when it will happen.

And anyone interested in the new layout:
-Click item, it expands all current shops or takes you to the item page if it is not vending
-Expanded shops list shows the minimap from the vender page on mouseover
-Hovering over links to item pages shows an item information tooltip (you can see one for dead branch in the following image)
-Search/Tagged/Cheap/RView/more will have this new item click thing going on

-The new nav menu will show you cheap/popular/whatever in real time if you hover over

Blahblahblah there's tons of stuff I want to do but I'm not sure how much else will get done.  This is at least a large improvement over the current site, and it's something I've wanted to do for a while now.   Still needs work because some stuff is ugly or not done.
imo though, the % before you updated the ragial was fine. now it seem i gotta squeeky look at the price before deciding whether its cheap or not since the % tend to be wrong.

UPDATE
-Fixed how long averages are generated.  There was a pretty big bug before.
-Percent near the item should no longer show 0 unless it is 0 (or very, very close.)

edit: Bleh.  There is kind of still an inconsistency with long term averages because of how they are calculated.  With how it is coded now I have to choose between including "bad" short term entries or throwing out "good" long term entries.  Easiest example of why this sucks: iRO-Valkyrie Biotite (http://ragial.com/item/iRO-Valkyrie/HbXm5a42iDwU).  If I keep good long biotite is fine, but a bunch of other entries keep really high short term prices that don't accurately reflect the market. It's not hard to fix it will just take time rewriting something.

It can take a few minutes to update, and it depends where you vend as well.  It doesn't crawl 100% of prontera.

Hey I dont know if this is illegal or something but this is my idea:

Comments for items, So that merchants struggling and they get under bid, and instead of prices being all over the place itll be more stream line.

"In my defense i am super high right now"

What do you mean by comments?

Like people can post comments on item pages?

It will probably see it there.

If it doesn't then maybe it only checks the bottom of the fountain.

Hey guys,

First of all let me say that I love your website, it's the reason I was inspired to make ragnarokexchange.com. In case you don't know, ragnarokexchange.com is like ragial, expect for items that aren't currently for sale. It's like an extension of your website. If someone can't find an item or wants to sell an item no one is buying, they can post it on ragnarok exchange and be notified when other people find them.

With that said, I was hoping you'd be open to a "partnership" of sorts. Basically I want to do the following:

1. When someone posts an item on Ragnarok Exchange, I would like to cross reference the Ragial database every hour or so to see if someone is vending it and then notify that user.

2. I would like to reference the ragial database for average prices and display them on

3. If someone searches ragial.com for an item and it isn't for sale, there could be a link to ragnaokexchange.com so that they can list it.

Please get back to me whenever you can. I think this type of thing would really improve the community!

Thanks,
majorBoobage

suggestions :
I'd like a "rare" tab, that shows item that are not often on sale. It could generate attention to those too.

Also, I noticed that items that are rarely on sale tends to have bad average (kinda expected) so, some kind of visual clue to warn about the bad average would be appreciated. (like a subtle "!" near the avg.)

Updated item names today. Sorry about the delay.

The big todo on the new version is:

-Popular
-Accounts
-Implement fulltext search (will go live on new version+current live version at the same time)

Everything else is fully functional at the moment, and a lot of things are greatly improved. I might launch the new version without accounts.  I'm not sure.  I could technically put it up today and it'd be better than the current site, but I kind of want it to be complete first for that first impression. :p

And some things that need to be done in general:

-Item image update
-Support for new and multi enchants

Given the nature of RO items this is kind of impossible.  It'd be filled with a lot of random upgrades/cards/enchants/etc.  I mean I could do it with certain requirements, but I think everyone would want to show different things.

I've been tempted to make certain lists of items and have pages for those. Like WoE supplies, upgradables, cash shop, etc.  It would just take someone to maintain them, and I am out of touch with the current game so others would have to come up with these lists themselves. If anyone wants to step up and post them that'd be cool.  Just need item names and groupings. Example:

Potions: Red Potion, White Potion, Yggdrasil Berry, etcetc
Upgrades: Elunium, Oridecon, Muffler (bad example, no one wants this now), etcetc

The idea is to have current lists that people actually want to check.

This is handled in the new version rather cleanly with a "confidence index" (shown as a %) based on standard deviation and amount seen.  Confidence in average: 50%, 100%, 80%, etc.

I did a bunch more stuff.  All that's really left is:

-Accounts
-Minor stuff that I could launch the site without doing immediately (help page, ability to toggle off tooltips, bring back old server info, this list never ends)

For the guy who wanted to exclude enchanted items, in the new version of the site you can use -iench.

Public test of the new version: http://odin.ragial.com

Useful things to look at: check the tagged/recently viewed pages they changed a lot, search changed a lot, brief search tutorial (http://odin.ragial.com/about/)

Known bugs:
-Items without an image don't show up as an apple (not an actual bug, has to do with subdomain)
-"[my lists]" is a layout placeholder and does nothing, it will likely handle login/registration/options type things

Todo before live:
-Add an option to disable tooltips
-Possibly limit item name length in popular/cheap tab

Post first impressions and criticism.  Fairly interested in feedback about anything that has changed, and I am also interested in what else you think should change.

I plan on revamping the item information page and calculating quite a bit more information about items along those lines, though.

Visual update to odin. (http://odin.ragial.com)

Backed up the current live site to classic (http://classic.ragial.com).

Also updated the item database.

I don't really have much free time right now, unfortunately.  I might put odin as http://ragial.com soon.  I just want to add an option to disable tooltips before doing that.  I wanted to do a lot more, especially with the item information page,  accounts,  and live market searching.  Meh. :(

If anyone thinks something on Odin is worse than the current live site post about it here please.

I don't know if it was suggested before, it's useless feature or it's more suitable for ropd.info.
It would be good if this site were able to monitor existing chat rooms. Initially, I thought about a extra page for Ragial which tracks chat rooms with "B>" and "S>" prefixes so it would make it easier to buy or sell items which cannot placed for vending and it's difficult to find that chat room by oneself (like chat rooms in Eden). But it's likely to be abused for other purposes so it's just easier to collect all char rooms and add a search feature.

The VPS for the updater is having issues.

It's not down, though. Updates are still as frequent as ever.  The "updated" time on the site is wrong, it should be time shown-21 minutes.  So if it says "updated 22m" it should be "updated 1m".

There is a little bug due to recent maintenance. Items #13610 and #13611 are supposed to be "Enriched Elunium 10 Box" and "Enriched Oridecon 10 Box" correspondingly. Though it's unknown if these boxes are permanent.

And one more thing, a suggestion - it'd be good to add separate records for named ("Beloved") pets because prices of named and non-named pets are significantly different.

It used to name them differently but track averages the same.   I added it to the todo list.

The site should be migrated over all fine as of last night.  Headgears don't show on players for now.  It has to do with PHP 5.3 not offering DBA for windows.  I'll switch it over to a less efficient format when I have time.

edit: Fixed a few bugs that came up.  If you see any errors or bugs post them up.

It's showing all 3 with "MDEF+6 STR+1 VIT+1 (http://ragial.com/item/iRO-Valkyrie/Hdt6iB52iFCG)" enchants even though all three are different.

Also I saw a problem with Meteo Plate with armor enchants (VIT+2, AGI+3, etc.) earlier on my other merc but I've already sold the item so it's not there anymore.

Fixed.  I thought maybe it was a longstanding bug I didn't notice, but it's because the new server's php is 32bit while the old was 64bit so it was truncating part of the hash generation.

I've seen ragmar and ragnastats have Item IDs for items, would it be possible to have these shown on Ragial as well? Its annoying (and not entirely legit...) to figure out which Unknown Item on vending has which ID.

There are plenty of Unknown Items now due to the update that added new bio3 stuff (Giant crossbow, Agent katar, holy scripture, etc) and seeing them mixed in with the items not identified from the new update (Malaya) and items improperly implemented (Loli Ruri accessory - ragial has the correct icon at least but still is "Unknown Item" in game even if its been around for a while)

I +tag them and add the link to a .txt to keep track of those I'm interested in, as such:

Unknown Items
Agent katar http://ragial.com/item/iRO-Yggdrasil/HbXm5a42iFVN
Holy scripture http://ragial.com/item/iRO-Yggdrasil/HbXm5a42iFHJ
Giant crossbow http://ragial.com/item/iRO-Yggdrasil/HbXm5a42iB85

But seeing the exact ID on ragial, at least for Unknown Items, would be nice.

Well nevermind about half the unknown items - they updated the IDs with proper icons and description today.
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2
Post by: Dishonru on May 30, 2012, 03:13:08 PM
Updated.

edit: Apparently "Holy scripture" is not in my client.  Welp.

I'll push an icon update sometime.  I need to setup apache on my local machine again to do that.

And as far as displaying Unknown #id, it's sort of intentional that I don't.  There's no reason for items to not have names and people are more likely to tell me the client updated with new items if it doesn't show that.

This is a pretty small thing, but while I was checking out the site style and layout (I'm a coder and was curious).

I noticed the table for listing items was broken, more specifically the td id="nmr" doesn't have a closing tag and same the link inside that redirect to item details. Again very small, but kind of surprising that it doesn't break the layout.
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2

Virtually all browsers parse xhtml with the mime type "text/html" as html. Tag soup parsers are fairly resilient, inferring missing end tags ("") as necessary. "td" in html has never required an end tag.

I'll fix it.  It is supposed to have a closing tag, and it's likely that I commented it out by accident at some point.  All of the item tables on the entire site are generated by one or two functions.

cotton shirt x1
boots x1
jellopy x1

Instead it will show:

boots x1
jellopy x1

Or sometimes triple.

The update script is timing out.

Classic is added.

I'll fix double updates some time in the next few hours.  I know why it does it without even looking at the code (timing out = fails to drop table and doesn't rename temp table, it adds the second parse to the same temp table, drops and renames properly, and then blahblabhlabhalbhablah who cares trivial to fix.)

Hey guys,

Alright so for the past month I've been working on a mobile application (Android). Basically what the application is intended to do is look up merchants and then add them to a watch list. Every 5 minutes (will be configurable) a service runs which will go check the merchants you have in your list and verify if there is any items has been sold. If it has, then the phone gives a notice (vibrate/sound, will be configurable). I keep track of the last 5 items sold. Obviously you can easily trick the system, but the idea of the app is to watch your merchant and know when your stuff sells, which is always the exciting part, or would let you know to restock.

Now this application is built on top of Ragial by the means of a restful web service I have build in php which parse the site (proof of concept at this point). So obviously I first want to ask permission to piggy back on Ragial (legally I'm not doing anything wrong though). I would give credit to Ragial in the application for all the data. If it's an issue then I'll just find my own way to grab the data or ask another market site.

If anyone wants a "beta" version, just give me your google email linked to your Android and I will send you a copy of the apk to try out.

Ragial started covering classic payon on July 5 (nice that someone finally noticed). If you get that error on classic, chances are the map is payon. The only other possibility is that someone warps it to another map and it sees one or more shops on the way back.

If I remember correctly a discussion we had some time ago, when ragial parses the data to calculate price averages, it removes prices that are too high or too low (as being statistically aberrant). I seem to recall 3 x standard dev as the boundary for exclusion of a price ? Is that the case ?

Maybe it'd be good to remain people of that so that they stop trying to artificially pump up price averages by selling enriched elu for 9m ?

There will be a point that if enough people sell an item for high enough eventually the averages will start sliding!

-Calculates average, removes anything greater than a standard deviation away
-Recalculates average with removed entries, removes anything greater than a standard deviation away*
-Never removes items that are below the average in cost  (meaning only >average, >std dev away items are thrown away)**
-Calculates weighted averages and standard deviation

*Might set this back to being 2* or 3* std dev away, because I've seen some items on classic where the average is below market price because quite a few people vended really low.
**This is obviously bad for creating a "confident" average and will increase the standard deviation, but in the context of ragnarok people are looking for a rough estimation of what they could get/sell the item for.

It is currently using the short term average to throw items away.  This is why long term averages are skewed downward by short term data. I've been lazy about fixing it, but I just thought of a really clean fix.  I'll implement it now and let averages rebuild themselves over time as new items are seen.

edit: Done.

New beta:

http://odin.ragial.com/

Looking for any feedback, complaints, bugs, etc.  Also looking for suggestions on how to improve specific pages.  For example, I feel like the item info page could be better but I haven't found anything that works particularly well.

I might roll it out in the live site sometime this weekend.  Originally I was going to finish up coding the user system and recode how tagged/recently viewed/etc work, but there are a number of fairly big improvements in that version of odin over the live site.  I might as well update the main site, and then I can push those other improvements at some later time.

Some questions about people's opinion on the new site:

(1) Should I bring the % from average back for live items? They will use 7 day average this time so they won't be massively off.

(2) Should buy items be colored red=buying low, green=buying high so it keeps a green=good, red=bad theme?

I say yes to both, it would be nice without clicking it to see just how much over or under a price is.

I been wondering is it possible to add like filters to search all items on sale, for example, say if we were looking for only mace-type weapons? Have it only show mace-class weapons that are currently for sale? If this is already there and I don't see it, sorry about this post. If not, well this is a little suggestion. Not sure how much work this would be though.

Good job on that revamp !

One feature I'd like to see included if it is even possible in the sarch filter is a price criteria.

Like, at the moment I make some money by buying cheap stuff and reselling it for more. So, the "cheap" page is invaluable, but if I have only 8m, it doesn"t matter if that 40m raydric card is dirt cheap.

Would it be possible to have a search for items that are being sold for X zeny or less.
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2
Post by: care on September 21, 2012, 12:05:43 PM
I think the search function is a little different from the old one.  I tried to search for nine tails by searching for "nine" but it showed no results.  On the old ragial, when I searched for "nine" it found nine tails and dragon canine, which I think is better, especially for those items you can't remember if it's one word or two, or have dashes.

Happened also when I searched "old card" for old card albums, but they didn't show up.

I'll think about the merge next week. I haven't had a chance to read about it or anything yet.

It will likely start fresh like the last merge. There's no reason to believe that one server's economy will remain mostly in tact after the merge, so all of the data is not particularly accurate.

It's because I am terrible and never got around to implementing accounts. There's a collision between you and someone else, and that's possible because it did not even store the id in a cookie for a while so it based it on ip+browser agent string. If you use a different browser, fake your agent string+delete the cookie for ragial, edit ragial's cookie to have a different token, or just delete the cookie for ragial it should be fixed.

It's definitely something I need to get around to fixing.  Either by adding accounts or ensuring there are no collisions now that the id is stored in a cookie. I might do a simple system where you can "identify" to a list by typing a password/phrase kind of thing in.

I don't know if the site does already or not, but is there any way you guys could make it automatically refresh every 30 seconds or something?

That way, the 10 things or w/e on the right side refresh if they are vending at that time or not.

This way I can leave the site up in the background or something when I am leveling and I can see that something is suddenly vending and then I can buy it before stupid ppl get it. Otherwise, I don't think about it and then when I check again, I find I already missed one that vended while I was leveling.

Just an idea. :colbert: Dunno if that's hard to do or not.

On Ragial Classic, the "Unbound Magni's Cap" and "Unbound Fricca's Circlet" are called "Beast Powder" and "Beast Powder Box" for some weird reason.

I have other suspicions that other "Unbound Gears" have the wrong names as well.  I was unable to find the boxed versions of Morrigane Helm, Morpheus Hood, Morpheus Ring, Morpheus Armlet.

Edit:  Found the rest of them.  They're labeled as ITEM_NOT_FOUND.  They all have the correct images though.

Since the support email doesnt seem to work anymore, im just gonna ask here :)

I have a small question about the item hashes that you are using (like HbXm5a42iFi4). I know that it's a hash for the item's ID, Cards, Refinement etc but how exactly is it calculated ?
I'd really like to know but I'm not very good at figuring stuff like this out.
Title: Re: Ragial Discussion v2
Post by: Dishonru on April 20, 2013, 06:37:49 PM
It just encodes the old hashes (or close to it) in to a shorter hash. They are still kind of long, but I wanted a reversible hash that guarantees no collisions.

It could be hashed to anything, because the hashes aren't encoded/decoded outside of when the item information table gets a new entry (from client files) or is forced to rebuild.

I'll get the support email fixed. All addresses @ragial are supposed to forward to a single email account.

Hi. since last week, I can see searches in the my recently viewed list that I didn't search for. It is really weird. I only search for equipments. the other searches are randoms, like consumables, tentacles, etc. I know that the my recently viewed list is from my cookies.

Am I being hacked? or there is something wrong with the website.

Someone help please. :(

It's not from getting hacked. The identifier for users isn't unique because it was supposed to be a temporary measure until I added accounts.

About 10-15% of the rows in recview/tagged have a zero-length token.

Hi, I've developed an Android App for ragial.com, which allows users to be notified of when certain items they choose are on sale. It currently offers support for all 3 servers (Chaos, Thor and Classic).

I've taken several measures to ensure that ragial.com servers aren't overloaded. It will only work at maximum once every hour per user, so the load is distributed and it is far better than checking by refreshing.

I was wondering if the app could be associated with ragial.com as a companion app. It is completely free and available to all countries supported by Google Play.

The link to the app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.somshubra.ragialnotifier

A link to the open source Java Library created by me to parse ragial.com : https://github.com/titu1994/Ragial-Searcher/tree/master/Ragial%20Searcher

Dear Ragial Developers,

Currently the Buying Section in iRO Thor is bugged. It has been 2 weeks since it last showed the real buying stores in the server. Can you please check on this issue? Thanks.

Hello,

it would be great if you can make the tag-list from cookie based to account-based. A simple login / user management with OAuth for FB / Google would be enough. And it is relatively simple. Done that myself with PHP a few Month ago.

I definitely intended the cookie thing to be temporary and to implement accounts, but I also had finals creeping up at the time so I pushed out a working site instead. Then I never got back to it.

On the thor thing, it should be fixed tonight. Sorry about that.

Since awhile when I type between +1 and +9 it shows all upgrades available. +10 seems to work fine though.
Another weird thing is when I go through my TAGS, sometimes it shows same items on multiple pages, but misses some items it should show, I tested both those problems on 2 browsers and it's bugged like that on both...
The +1 - +9 problem seems to be on since a week before all my tags got wiped ^^;. The multiple show of tags seems to be on longer though...

The +1-+9 issue is known. It will be fixed... eventually. For now, put another + in front: e.g. ++9.

Please send screenshots of the other issue.
