While I'll agree that a lot of more recent stuff has been fairly bad, there are a few good shows in there. Although a lot of older stuff was more about the story and not the actual animation aspect.

I've watched through one recent anime ever, just about.
All the others I've watched and have in some from are from the 90's (one from the 80's).
I have FMA burned to CD somewhere... and I have had it for a couple years, but I haven't bothered to watch through it yet.

Currently I'm trying to find a download for Record of Lodoss War, but I'm having no luck D:

Check Mushishi and Mononoke if you are looking for non standard awesome animes. They both kinda fall into the fantastic/horror(no blood/gore) genre.

Checkout Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha (+A's, +StrikerS) if you want a what seems to be a magical girl anime - but goes much much farther and is pretty awesome.

I'm looking for comedy animes, Pure comedy or mostly comedy with fighting or drama thrown in.
Something like, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Gintama, and Seto no Hanayome. (I think i've watched most of the popular comedy animes already.)

If you haven't watched Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi yet I recommend watching it. Sometimes the humor is a bit forced, but it's not bad. And there's plenty of fights.

It starts off a bit slow imo, but it gets better later on. It's in the last few eps right now. Two left to go I think.

I strongly strongly recommend Monster.  I think it's something like 74 episodes, but it's awesome from beginning to end.

I also recommend Yakitate Japan.  I never would have thought an anime about baking bread would be so awesome.

Has anyone here seen Hunter X Hunter? I'm looking for something new to watch and some people I know told me to look at it. I just want to get some other opinions first.

One of my favorite animes. It's funny, the battles are nice, and it's different.

Claymore - If you're into Naruto/Bleach

Berserk - For just plain awesomeness, action, storyline, and thought provoking themes!

Heres my list of good animes this year that I recommended to others, and agreed with me, that they were good:

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Season 1, 25 episodes)
Season 2 is in the making, so its best to watch this before it ever airs.
Kaze no stigma (24 episodes)
An interesting anime about magic users, and the lineage of fire magic users.
Monster (74 episodes)
Unlike the name, the anime centers around a doctor that saved a boys life over the mayor's, and loses everything...
Claymore (26 episodes)
Very good anime about demons, the storyline is excellent.
DeathNote (37 episodes)
Need I say more?
D. Gray-man (50+episodes and ongoing)
A very good anime about demons created by the Millenium Earl, and the Dark Order which exists solely for the purpose of destroying him. An interesting take on the story of Noahs Arc, and the great flood.
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi (50 episodes)
The story centers around a boy who seeks to become stronger, and ends up getting trained by the strongest martial artists in the world.
Heroic Age (26 episodes)
An interesting anime about space exploration, and how the golden tribe left this universe, leaving behind their knowledge and power for others to find.
