Damn I remember hating that game because it was similar looking to FF8's game but played completely different (causing me to never win it) :(

uhh basically
The cards have arrows in whichever direction, if you put one down and its arrow faces a card with no adjacent arrow (place a card with up arrow vs a card above it with no down arrow) you capture that card. If it does have an arrow in the appropriate direction the one with the higher number wins.

A lot of it is luck and you can get fucked really easily if you take effort or you can win just randomly placing cards. I don't think theres any purpose to collecting the cards (I could be wrong!) and the only time you have to do it is for that mandatory tournament but I dunno.

oh god blitzball is even worse

The Tetra FAQ on there is really spergy and if you didn't get it in the first place I don't think that FAQ would be much help.

It did tell me flat-out there's no point to doing the card game so yeah. In related news:

Seen stuff like this so many times but its still pretty cool.

The first number is their attack value. The letter indicates whether is a physical attack, magical attack, or x means it will attack the other cards weaker defensive stat. The next number is the physical defense, and then the magic defense. I think it goes from 0-E or something (maybe higher). As people said, it's not always true that the strongest card will win. I believe to get a perfect Cardmaster ranking, you have to have only 1 of each card with a different arrow formation for every card, while every card has the max attack stat. Kind of ridiculous imo.
You can call me Brian Boitano.

For the 1st, 3rd and 4th digit on the card, 0 is the weakest, F is the strongest.
In our example (Cactuar Card), its primary weakness is Magic type cards. Although make sure that your Magic type card has Physical Defense to surpass that of Cactuar's 3.

For the 2nd digit, it determines what type of attack it is:
P - physical
m - magical
x - whatever's the weaker defense value

in the event that two cards have opposing arrows, then the battle begins
Say for instance:

0P10 vs 1M00

Using this table
Code: [Select]
0 -   0    15
1 -  16    31
2 -  32    47
3 -  48    63
4 -  64    79
5 -  80    95
6 -  96   111
7-  112   127
8 - 128   143
9 - 144   159
A - 160   175
B - 176   191
C - 192   207
D - 208   221
E - 224   239
F - 240   255
1. You get a random value. Meaning the first digit of both cards
First card: 0 which could be any number from 0 to 15
Second card: 1 could be any number from 16 to 31

2. Next is the type of attack.
1st card is a P, 2nd one is a M

3. 3rd digit is for Physical Def
1st card is 1(any number between 16 and 31)
2nd card is 0(any number between 0 and 15)

4. 4th digit is for Magical Defense
1st card is 0(any number between 0 and 15)
2nd card is 0(any number between 0 and 15)

5. Assuming that the random number generated for the 1st card is:
12 - Attack(p)
25 - Physical Defense
10 - Magical Defense

And the second one
30 - Attack(m)
2 - Physical defense
15 - Magical Defense

6. It's just a matter of subtraction. The card with the lower value, obviously loses.
Since card 2 is a magic attack, card 1's value is: -20
Since card 1 is a physical attack, card 2's value is: -10
We all know that -20 < -10. That simply means card 1 has lost the battle. Like what Pantsu stated, it is not always the case. Remember that the values you get are random.

All I remember is I found it a hell of a lot more confusing than FF8's triple triad. Speaking of which I've been playing FF8 from PSN right now after not having played it for god knows how many years.

it's a bit confusing because there is a random value. the best tactic i have found was placing a low score with a lot of arrows in the center and use that for combo. In this way I was normally able to win.
However, it's only a waste of time, where in ff8 you were able to turn cards into useful items; just win the Namingway card in the tournament (you will able to change your name in daguerreo).
