is it 1 in every 5000 monsters or 10,000 monsters? I feel like I've gone forever without seeing one >.>

5000 statistically if there's no drop event/bubble gum of any sort active.

well, the chance to get (at least) one card out of 5k killed monsters is "just"
(1 - 0.9998^n) = (1 - 0.9998^5000) = 63.22% |

I suppose it depends if you are on premiums or not as well, right?

that equation is for valk actually... basing the rates offa 1x server... (my math was wrong @_@)
edit: if you were to calculate gum youd multiply n by 2 or 3 depending if ur using reg gum or he Last edited by CPay; 02-11-2010 at 09:55 AM. |

Afaik is Gum not a clean doubleing of the drop rate, but an additional chance. 50% drops (database) won't become 100% drops but 2x 50% = 75% drops. Increased server drops will increase the base droprate. |

The reason cards drop at a 2/10,001 (which is vey close to 1/5,000) rate is because the counter starts at 0 instead of 1. The card drops is the number is 1 or less so that's 1 or 0, which is 2 values out of 10,001 values.
Anything that doubles the drop rate will multiply the target value. For a card the target value is 1 so in double drops it becomes 2. However because of the same count from 0 problem that doesn't double the number of values that would satisfy the drop. Now instead of 2/10,001 it's just 3/10,001. That count from 0 problem is the also why you get 0% drop rate 8th slot apples. They have a target value of 0 which is has 1/10,001 chance of being satisfied. That's half as likely as a card drop. I don't know how gum works but it sure seems like it checks twice rather than doubling the rate. I think this because I did not get an OCA from Gloom while using HE gum

cards are usually one in two thousand ( 0.05% ), that is in normal rates / valk etc

Bubble gum just "tries again" if it fails the first time, so I assume the zero is counted twice.

I've been trying bubble gum for the last few days killing hodremlin/seekers
Here is my results every 30 minutes: No Bubble Gum (did 3 runs): Witch Starsands - average 62 each run Will of The darkness - average 33 each run Bloody Rune - average 36 each run Regular Bubble Gum (did 2 runs): Witch Starsands - average 106 each run Will of the Darkness - average 40 each run Bloody Rune - average 42 each run HE BBGum (used twice for 30 minutes of drops): Witch Starsands - 124 Will of the Darkness -67 Bloody Rune - 54 It looks like regular gum only increases drops by 50% ![]() While HE Gum increases drops by 100%.. That seems different from its description |

consider the 200% to be 100% plus an additional 100%...tho ragnarok drop rates will never be exactly 100% its just an increased chance to get it again. like for example you roll a set of dice you have a 2/12 chance to get a # to appear. with Gum/HE Gum your just re rolling the dice a second time in that instant you kill the monster. so you have a 4/12 chance to get the same # you just rolled
so in short there is even a chance with HE Gum to not even get an item thats a base 50% drop rate...tho that would suck @Lumi: 200% is just 2x the original chance (since the original on valk server is 1x with HE Gum its now 2x remember decimal points! 2.00x = 200%)

Usually sources like this
http://forums.irowiki.org/showthread.php?t=38050 Over time, generally drops like that wind up being considered pretty accurate and are used.

I've never seen any 0% apple drop on me. When's your last time a 0% apple drop on you? The x in 10001 chance thing may or may not be secretly corrected within the AEGIS code.
Card drop rates are formally defined as 0.01% in the drop tables. With 2x drops that will become 0.02%. Given the luck factor affecting card drop is extreme, it's not possible to tell if an extra +0.01% drop chance exists or not, as we can't see the AEGIS server's codes.

Im pretty confident it was proven that gum doesn't work like that. There was a discussion on iROf about this, and (though I don't remember the evidence they gave) it was stated that it was 100% proven that gum and HE gum give a flat multiplier to the drop rate of the items, with a cap of 90% for anything (server rates bypass the 90% cap, which is why some items are 100% on Ymir and not on valk).
There's an additional bug with using HE gum on 90% drop rate items, but thats a different discussion altogether lol. |
