Default Brand New Swordsman!

Hi, guys! Just starting out with this class, need some help.

I'm not sure if I want to be a Knight or a Crusader yet, what are the benefits of each? And which one can hit level 99 the fastest? Plus which one's more gear-intensive?

haha thanks a ton! Here's what I have so far, been creaming Pecopecos and Elder Willows all afternoon!
Bash 10
Increase HP Recovery 1
And like 7-8 unused skill points!

THANKS! :]

depends on what stats you have. in my opinion, a GC+Heal Crusader is a fast way to 99. Crusaders are INT based swordies, so 99 in INT is a must.

AGI Knights seem to lvl up fast as well, minus the ability to Heal and regenerate sp. If youre looking for power, an AGI Spear Knight is good.

But like I said, it all depends on your stats.

Im a GC+Heal crusader, and I lvl up pretty well.
Hope that helps.

INT swordies are harder to level too.

I have a 99 sader and an 8x pally, both were 99'd as GC saders.

Gotcha! haha maybe I will think about that! I'd have to remake her, though, so far she's got ~50 STR and 20 DEX, 9 AGI. man. :[

It's terribly tough for me to find parties (not that many first-classers hanging around), and I can see an INT swordie doing little to no damage, so how do I get buy until I get GC and Heal?

Well, if you don't want to remake (and who does) you can always go Knight or Shield Crusader.

youre pretty much set for either Shield sader Agi Spear Knight, or Agi Knight.

What i did when i was lvling my INT swordie was kill spores, then moved on to Wolves, then finished up by killing and collect Quills for the rep exp quest.

I'm okay with remaking, I'll probably keep both and level whichever one I like better. :]

With that in mind, how DO I go about leveling a pre-GC crusader? How am I supposed to crusade against evil if I don't have any means of attack? It's like sacking Jerusalem with a switchblade!

Here's what I'm thinking for skills:
Bash 10
Provoke 1
Increase HP Recovery 10
1-Handed Sword Mastery 10 (I wanna carry a shield!)

And if I have to go to job 50 to make this viable, that's cool! Probably Magnum Break? I dunno

Edit: Starting typing this then forgot, missed two responses! I might do that, Rasko, that's a good idea! and what's SVD?

SVD = STR, VIT and DEX
It's my favorite build for Knight too. Lots of fun and good xp.

About Crusader, you should get Provoke 10 as a Swordie.
I can't help you about leveling because I never had one of these...If you don't get into a party, probably should kill weak monsters in bulks, like Metalings and Wolves. It might take some time if you want to go job 50 though.

if you go Crusader, youll get used to spamming Bash alot. with a good amount of int, youll regen the lost sp fairly quickly. Provoke 10 isnt really neccessary, i only got provoke 5 to get Endure 1. and going to job 50 wont have much benefits (besides the extra skills) when you change to Crusader, you only get 6 extra white pots. (btw, the Crusader job quest is really short and easy) Crusader is also the only class that has a passive skill that increases your maximum HP.

its really handy to have mag break when going against wolves, since its splash damage, and they tend to mob. downside is that it eats up alot of sp in the early lvls as a swordie.

Provoke 10 and Endure 10 is a must on Crusaders.

Provoke increases Damage you receive by increasing your enemy's ATK. Coupled with Shield Reflect, even a meager amount of STR can still be sufficient. Although, a Shield Crusader, is very slow to level when put up against a Grand Cross counterpart. It is also useful on Spear Quicken Crusaders.

Endure 10 on the other hand, reduces recoil damage you receive from constant Grand Cross usage.

Bash will be your overused skill. Getting Holy Cross is bound by player preference. Holy Cross 10 is 5 sp more than Bash 10, a bit stronger than Bash, has a chance to Blind targets and is forced Holy Elemental.

Riding a Grand Peco is a must for Spear Quicken, Grand Cross, Sacrifice type Crusaders. Although the first requires Cavalier Mastery... for obvious reasons. Shield-based Crusaders are optional in this aspect.

Endure 10 is not a must, it just increases the duration and the MDEF, you can do it even with level 1 lol

Uhh... it is, to me, especially if you'll get GC 10. 1 MDEF against 10 MDEF?? Don't be lazy. With 10 Endure and a couple MDEF gears, you can LOL harder at how pathetic the damage you receive from spells.

haha okay!

I'm thinking of finishing out the INT swordswoman for a fairly ultimate GC, how necessary is Provoke 10 versus Provoke 5?

I don't want to go job 50, as I'm guessing it'll be very tough to level anyhow, even though I will likely have extra SP for Bash from the INT. If necessary though, sure, I'll go for it.

Thanks a ton you guys, this thread was one of the best ideas I've had, getting a lot of great help here! :]

I'm also a brand new swordie like Kayla. I was thinking about a GC Crusader... but I'm worried about the equipments.

Will I be able to make/enjoy a GC Crusader being brand new poor?

Personally, I'm going to go Job 40. You'll be resetting at 99 anyways as you transcend to the great Paladin...

Starting an INT Crusader is not advisable as they tend to deplete you of your Zenny fast. Think of all the necessary equipment you need...A poor man's choice would be a Double Hurricane Haedonggum. Well... if you can endure sitting 50% ~ 75% of your gaming time, then I think we have no problems BUT, if you really want some fast paced leveling, you may want to befriend a Priest/High Priest and a Scholar. High Priests will provide you with Assumptio, Heal, and Suffragium, Scholars will take care of your SP problems. If you're really that friendly, then put in a Bard/Minstrel for Magic Strings.

I have a young rogue now, thinking of using her to gather some Dokebi Horns or Frills to help fund the swordswoman! I don't know how I'll find a High Priest or Scholar to help me, but I'll see what I can do.

If not, I can just hold off leveling my swordie until a later date, which is fine by me. Got tons of the game to explore no matter what. :]

Great! Although I was thinking of a Wizard because Rogue Farmers are so ♥♥♥-material. Don't get me wrong, but I do find a lot of Rogues ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ since... they were released. Well, I commend your efforts if you're true to yourself and farm, the hard and legit way. Oh, make sure you stock yourself up with tons of Blue Potions. Geffen 2 have lots of it.

Well... Blue Potions restores SP and as a GC Crusader... even at 99 INT, you'll break the 1k mark at later levels... so you really need to spam those Blue Potions.

Yeah, that's where I leveled my thief for a while! Poison Spores! They really add up, and I've got a few blue herbs sitting around to show for it. I'll look into Geffen 2, if all goes well I can level and grab some pots at the same time. :]

Did some reading on Wizards just to check it out, it does seem like a very fun class. Word on the street the master technique is the vertical firewall - truth? Can take on Clocks until I get Frost Diver/Storm Gust and Jupiter Thunder!
haha suppose I could ask the Wizard board!

Yes. Wizards are fun but I don't excel on that class that much, no matter how I try.

Vertical Firewalls?? I think they work best on Undeads since they can pass through it and with that trick, I think... it can kill the poor thing, in no time. And BTW, even Mages can solo Alarms with Firewall + Fire Bolt.
