Default Satellite TV or Digital Cable

Which one do you guys prefer? Has anyone had experience with both?

I have Digital Cable but have never tried out Satellite TV but I'm tempted since it seems cheaper. I think I'm paying too much for my Digital Cable around $75.00 for around 200 channels and no special movie ones.

honestly, I like the fact that when I turn on my tv, it's in my timezone rather than EST. But then again, you might be EST <_>.. plus, I'm not sure but I think my friend had satellite go out on her more than digital cable.. D: but a storm could do that to cable too..

personally, if you can get cable + internet together, I'd go with that cos they tend to make it a tad cheaper for getting both depending on your ISP?

digital cable>satellite

i used to have digital cable and it was perfect all the time(unless they were fixing something). Then I moved, only thing available in the area is satellite. Every time it rains or gets too windy the damn thing stops working. Stick with your cable, $75 is nice. And keep in mind you have all these other fees with satellite like the boxes and dish itself.

But you can get satellite free of monthly charge, if you know what I mean.

If a satellite company approaches you for evading their monthly fees, then tell them that they should keep their satellite signals out of your yard.

Cable. Satellite goes out whenever the weather's bad.

I have little experience with satellite (with the brief exception of when my grandparents had it, though they later switched to cable when it became available), but digital cable seldom goes out during storms, something that most reviews of satellite television say is a problem with that option.

You don't get quite as many international channels on cable (at least in my experience) as satellite advertises though, and that's one benefit in the satellite column if you'd like to watch TV from other countries.

You can generally get cable Internet service with digital cable as well, generally both for a lower price if they're bundled. Satellite Internet service exists but it's only a few times faster than dial-up.

As for the international channels thing..

I know for my cable company, Cox, they actually have a good variety of the international channels including all the BBCs, JP channels, Flip, etc. BUT you generally have to pay extra per month. Some are a lot more than others too.. i.e. $25 mo versus $10 lol.

I've had both and Digital Cable all the way. Cheaper with internet, more reliable, and more content. The only thing DirectTV has over cable is the NFL package and I can go to a local bar if I wanna check it out.

Guess I'll keep the Digital Cable then since bad weather is coming up. I do have the bundle but it's only $15.00 less for the whole thing right now. Cox used to have 50% off for 6 months which was way better for me.

What about in terms of higher definition which one is better for a big screen TV? I know that it's a different service for Digital Cable but what about Satellite TV does that just come in the package?

If you're talking about HDTV then I'd ask them what channels are available, you probably will have to pay extra just like you do with digital cable. In fact I canceled my digital cable because there wasn't enough high definition programming I enjoyed.

It's comcastic!

hhmmmm...I prefer digital cable because during thunderstorms or heavy wind my satelite dies out for moments. I missed certain important scenarios from shows that only show one time....

my opinion is somewhat biased, as i work for direct TV. the only reason a satellite signal should go out is due to snow being in the dish. a rough wind may knock the satellite out of alignment, but you should still be able to get half your channels, depending on the dish you have.

Pro's of DirecTV service;
-currently have around 80~ish HD channels
-usually dont have to wait more than 2 days for a service call[depending on area]
-if installed correctly, nothing should go wrong unless there is snow in the dish.
-access to a lot more channels

Con's:
-doesnt work in snow
-sometimes, the dish may not have a line of site with the satellites
-people like to talk us down without trying it
